Model 29-2 Presentation Cases?

I recently picked up a M29-2, SN: N69xxx, 1972 Mfg. It was in a presentation case with all the tools but the felt was green. What are your thoughts about this sir?
Thanks, Gene

Gene...the blue lining in the case your 29-2 was shipped in deteriorated rapidly and had to be replaced with a cloth lining. In your case, the cloth was green. I have a case relined with green cloth and two with blue cloth.

Dan...I can tell you the correct type of case if you give me the first three digits of the serial number followed by Xs. For example, N123XXX.

Hello Sir,
My 29-2 SN is N690xx. Is the felt blue or green or did in come in both types. Thank you Gene

The Mahogany Presentation Case was used for N frame guns from 1960 thru 1983. During this time period S&W used 4 different type of liners. The 29-2 was made from 1962-1982. The earlier 29-2, an S serial prefix, cases are a bit harder to find. All 4 of the different types of liners had problems withstanding the test of time so it is difficult to find a case in good shape. The type of liner, barrel length, and condition will determine the price. I restore the liners for these cases and have some extra cases on hand. If you email me I might be able to help you in your quest for a case.

This is a before and after pic of the type case used from 1979-1983.

I have a 29-2 SN: 690xx that came in a presentation case that looks like the liner was replaced with green felt. Is this correct for this 1972 4 1/2" 29-2 ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Gene

Is what correct, Gene?

Is the green felt correct? No. Was the blue flocking replaced with green felt? Yes.

I know, I'm easily confused.

It's unlikely that your gun has a 4 & 1/2" barrel. But, I'm often wrong on a wide variety of topics.

Gene...I sent you a private message with some additional information about the case for your 44 Magnum.
