So I bought the canon Model 29-3 10 5/8" barrel, and the SN starts 947XXX. Thanks

The 29-3 model ran from 1982 to 1988 so we would need more specifics. For that model from 1982 to 1986 the serial number should start with an N and in 1987 and 88 it would have been something like AAA 0000 being alpha numeric.

If your serial number starts with an N your gun was probably made in 1984/1985 because the book gives a 4 year span for the 900000 series of serail numbers.

I would guess 1983.

The book says that 1983 was the first year of the 10 5/8" barrel. Also in 1983, the "N" prefix ended on the Model 29-3, and the above mentioned AAA 0000 type serial numbers started on the 29-3.
The book does say that the N900000 S/N ran from 1982 - 1986, but that range was shared by 8 different models.

Again, I'm guessing.

Yes I forgot the N. Mine is not p&r, did any come that way in that length? Thanks

Yes, according to the book, the 10 5/8" barrel was introduced on the 29-3 Silhouette model in 1983.

Yes but any of them come p&r barrel cylinder?

From what I read in the book, no.
The -2's were the last P&R's.
The -3 change was that they did away with the P&R. That change happened in 1982, and the 10-5/8" barrel didn't happen until the following year in 1983.

Hope this helps.
Sorry, I misunderstood your question in post #4.

I'm unable to determine whether my 29 is a dash 2 or 3. The s/n is N906XXX. I believe I purchased it in 1983

Did you look for the model number on the inside of the crane?

It sounds like you have a -3.
If I read the book correctly, if your gun is a -2 the barrel will be pinned and the cylinder will be recessed (the cartridge will sit flush with the cylinder when loaded).
If your gun doesn't have those two things, it will be a -3.

Also the N900000 S/N range span was 1982 - 1986, but was only used on the 29-3 in 1982 - 1983, and the 29-3 started in 1982.
Considering the -3 & the N900000 S/N overlap dates, it sounds like a -3.

Are you confused yet? I think I am.

Thanks Hillbilly77; from your research I agree with you that indeed it is a -3.

29-6

Hello,

any chance somebody could help me to date 29-6 serial N° CCL0316 ?

Is 1100$ is a fair price regarding the condition? it is splendid without any scratch. Frame, barrel and cylinder are not scratch, no used marks and previous owner only shots 44spl semi WC.

I was looking for a 29-2 but it is very difficult to find it in Paris/France, so I may give an option to this one.

Thx,

Denis.
