I have a Model 29-3E with no model number stamped on the yoke, or showing anywhere on this gun. I know it's a dash 3 because of the AWW prefix serial number (1987) and I believe it to be an Endurance model due to the manufacture date and the fact there is an 'E' (E20 actually) stamped on the crane. Anyone have any knowledge of such an anomaly?

Not so much interested in whether it's an E version (which I believe it is), but rather the rarity of a model 29-3 with no model number stamped on the gun. This would make it sort of like the coin collector with a miss-stamped coin. Just trying to find out if anyone else has encountered this.

As a gun of that era with factory Target stocks, it 'should' have the model and serial number stamped on the frame yoke recess. However, these stampings being missing has been reported and does not bring a substantial premium, unlike error coins (one of my former hobbies).

Very curious The model number is on the frame, in the yoke cut, not on the yoke. The E20 is a fitters or inspectors mark, it has nothing to do with having the endurance features. All Model 29s after dash 2E are endurance models.

The long stop notches are a dead giveaway too.

No such thing as an endurance package 29-3 or 29-4 for that matter.

It was first implemented in the 29-5 years later.

In the 629 there were a few 629-2E variants produced but not common. It was implemented across the board in the 29-5 and 629-3 models.

(29 and 629 models made during the same time periods do not have the same dash numbers as the 29 was around for years before the 629 was introduced)

The 29-5 and 629-3 are the same vintage. 29-6 and 629-4. 29-7 and 629-5.

To clear up any confusion
My SCSW 3rd edition page 198:

29-3E (1987) Endurance package: early markings of the -4.
29-4 (1988 ) :New yoke retention system / radius stud package / floating hand; early models marked 29-3E for Endurance package.
1990: Longer stop notch in cylinder, new bolt block.
Introduction of the Magna Classic.
1991 : Introduction of the .44 Classic.
1992: Introduction of the .44 Magnum Classic Deluxe.
29-6 (1993) Hogue grips , drill and tap frame top strap, change rear site leaf, change extractor.

(Apparently they missed noting the 29-5 after 1990 in the 3rd edition.
Ps they also make no mention of the new rear site change on the 29-5 but it did change and then changed again in the 29-6 to the current design)

Imo mismarked and non Model marking does not add any value unless there is someone out there that collects mismarked or non marked errors but I doubt that.

That being said a SW made prior to model marking is usually more collectable but thats because it's a pre model.

A model 29-3 with no model number would be a bit unusual. Without pictures, it's existence is not yet proven.
