I recently purchased a 29-3 in 8.375 and was trying to figure out the production date.

Thank you very much! From the condition of the gun it appears it was never fired by the previous owner. $650 with a wooden presentation box. I'm just waiting for ammo so I can shoot this beast. Should I have any fear of the barrel moving because it is not pinned?

As far a the barrel moving, nothing to worry about. Just get some factory ammo and have some fun. Assuming you do not reload.

What barrel length?

I do not reload the barrel is 8.375". The gentleman I purchased it from also has a 6.5" model 29-10 that appears to be NIB but wants $950. I opted for the older gun and longer barrel and cant wait to shoot it.

That is a very good price. I paid $800 for my 29-3 with 8.375 inch barrel with box , tools and paperwork 3 years ago. So I would definately buy if I were the original poster. This thread needs some pictures so here is mine with same barrel length.

I bought one back in 1987 at a gun show in Virginia Beach. The vendor, who came all the way from Indiana, had several dozen for sale. The price? Each were $200! I wish I could have afforded to buy more than one.

Great deal for that revolver. It's what I call a Jesse James deal. Were you wearing a mask when you made the purchase? If you can't get .44 magnum ammo, you can always shoot .44 Special through it.

I picked this one up off GB early this year
for $775 boxed, about 98%, wearing Pachmeyer's.(sp)
1983-84.

OP, do a search on how to post pics. There are several threads on the forum that'll help you out. I use Postimage.com. And since everyone else is posting pics of their 29-3s, here's mine.

My oddball is a 5 and 13/16", magna ported barrel, 3 Ts, serial # AJJ92xx that falls in the 1985 range. The right hand stock has an inside ink stamp of APR 1988. The serial # is repeated inside the crane area so the target stock is original. There is a S enclosed in a circle on the right butt and a R enclosed in a delta closer to the toe on the same side. The model # is: MOD 29-9. (Misstamped??) The left stock is speed loader relieved, not "footballed". Cylinder is fluted.
