Model 29-4 scope mounts

I have Model 29-4 8&3/8" barrel with scope mount slots. What type of 1" rings fit this mounting system and where to get them. Is there any base used or do the rings just tighten in the slots.Thanks for any help on this.

I was looking at a similar 29 and was told Millet rings would fit . I did not buy the gun yet ,but the dealer was a gunsmith to so I'm assuming he was correct .

I visited my local gunshop and we tried the Millet rings but they did not fit.The owner said they are special to S&W so I will call them tomorrow.Thanks for your help.

29-4 Scope Rings

I finally got through to S&W and was told only their rings would fit. He checked inventory and said they had 22 pair left.Must not be a big seller since they were only used a couple years on 8 3/8" barrels. Ordered a set for $53.00 shipped.

I tried to get rings for the 629 with slots on the barrel and never found them. S&W told me I would have to find an original pair. Do you have the order info for the rings? I would really like a pair. The picture is what it's supposed to look like. I have the gun & scope but no rings.

Model 629 scope rings

I looked on the S&W website under parts lists, model 29 and they were listed as #078120000.I don't have them yet so I would not order yours till I see if they fit properly.Their tech #is 1-800-331-0852. I just looked at the Model 629 list and the scope mounts are the same number as the Model 29. I'll let you know about the fit when they get here.

Model 29-629 Scope Rings

I received the Model 29 scope rings today and tried to put them on but the bosses on the bottom were to high and would not fit down in the slots in the barrel rib.This caused them to rock and not seat on the barrel rib like they should. I measured the slot depth and found not only were they to shallow but the front one was .010"shallower than the rear one. Great quality control. I very carefully filed down the bosses till they fit. Care must be taken because the threads are very close to the bottom of the boss. They look very much like Millet rings for a .22 rifle.Maybe the Millet did not fit at the gunshop for the same reason these didn't, I had too much help so I never really got a good look if you know what I mean! I'll go back tomorrow and take the S&W rings and compare and measure the two. I'll let you know the results.

Model 29-629 Scope Rings

I went back to the gunshop today and compared the S&W and Millet rings. The .22 have no bosses under to fit the slots in the barrel so they are out . The standard ones fit Weaver bases so the clamps are too thick and a different angle,so they won't fit either. It's S&W or nothing I quess. Maybe your barrel slots are deeper than mine and you won't have to file the boss down.

model 29 scope rings

I have the last set of model 29 scope rings. They are for sale if you are interested. I bought for a revolver and then would up not able to buy the revolver. they are from smith and ready to run.
