Model 29 Pawn Shop Find Input

When I bought my Model 29 I had no clue what "coke" grips were. After reading up on them I felt a lot better about the price I paid for it. I'm just lucky it didn't have the wrong grips on it or else I'd have been pretty ticked off with myself.

I had read about Cokes here in the forum and never knew my M-29-2 had had them until I posted pictures of the gun and folks pointed it out to me what they were.

I just bought Cokes for my M-27. They are perfect. They look brand new.

I like the feel of them better than the Diamond Targets that I replaced with the Cokes.

I'd buy some Cokes for my 1968 6" nickel M-27-2 but I don't think that they are era correct for that gun.

The Diamond Targets I took off my M-27 are nicer that than Targets on my M-27-2 so I guess I'll put them on it.

I got it for $1250. I'm starting to think I did ok on it!
I was going to say that the wear on that set looks legit, it's been used, but not abused, with it being in that condition, but a complete presentation box set, $1500 is likely the least you could hope for and would be a good deal. Yeah, you did just fine.

Cokes?

Beautiful pickup with Character OP, Nice Find! I hope I'm as lucky someday. All I own is a make believe Dirty Harry with my 6" Model 19-3 3T.

Question for the forum...How do I spot a set of Cokes? I've heard them discussed many times, but not sure I can tell the difference. OP I 'borrowed' a copy of your grips (which are Cokes), and put in the set of plain targets on my Model 19. I've heard they are 'swollen' in the center like a coke bottle, is that the only way to tell? Did all the Cokes have Diamonds like his? The checkering also appears to be wider, closer to the edges, is this normal for Cokes?

Thanks, may never see any in person, but sure like to be able to identify them if I do.

No, it isn't the only way. But, yes, they all have something of a swell, which is how they got the nickname. On some it is more pronounced than on others.

All Cokes had the diamond. But the larger area of checking is the most obvious indicator. Once you get used to the difference between regular N frame diamond target stocks and the Cokes, you never have to look twice. The greater coverage of the checking is the tell tale sign.

And before you ask, Cokes were only N frame stocks. There were not any K frame Cokes.

Thank you Sir, very much appreciated and very clear...especially the intuitive part about the K's.

You done good...

Yep, you did good with that one! As mentioned above, the CB stocks are worth $400-500; the presentation case/tools/papers are worth another couple of hundred; around here it is easily a $1500+ package. Like bgrafsr and llowry61 recommended, contact Joe (jcelect) and have him refurbish the case for you, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks to all for the comments and great info, especially regarding "coke" identification. I will also be sure to include FULL SN's in future posts to ensure accuracy. It'll be awhile before I can pick it up, but I'll post some better pics when she's all cleaned up! Thanks again!

Congratulations, great find.

I bought this wholesale for my store in the early 70s and sold it to a guy from New Jersey. Recently bought it back from the same guy. What should I have paid for it? Not Coke Bottle Grips, original Target Stocks, 8 3/8" Nickel , with the original presentation box and tools, almost As New.

Still having all my bound books, I am trying to track down some of the other pieces I had sold from the store that I should have just kept. Got a Model 41, a Thompson Contender and a Gold Cup back so far from that list. Found a MAC-10 I also sold when I was an Ingram Dealer, but I am not sure I want to have to deal with that.
