I have the opportunity to trade for a 1958 model 29 with 6" barrel. It is in the wooden presentation case with all tools and it wears coke bottle grips. Barely a turnline visible and not a scratch anywhere. Tag on it is $1450. Will look to trade my 4" nickel 57-1 and my 4" nickel 25-5- both in pristine condition. Would you do it?

gm - does the 4 screw 29 have the proper "clamshell" case and fluted sight adjustment tool?
If yes to both/ and based on your previous condition, the 44 magnum is priced well.
Personally, I'd just buy the 29 and then if you want to sell your guns - do it own your own.

gutterman,

First off, how are you coming to the conclusion it's a 1958 Model 29?? Is the Frame stamped Mod-29 in the Yoke Area or are you going by Serial No. alone??

Secondly, if in fact it is a 1958, Model Marked or not...unless Special-Ordered...it should have a 6 1/2" Barrel not a 6"!! That is if it's measured from the Frt. Face of the Cyl. to the Barrel Muzzle!!

Also, does the Wooden Presentation Case have Satin Lining or a Blue Flocked Interior?? Reason I ask is if it's a Model-Marked 29 shipped sometime Late '58-Early '60...& has a "Period Correct" 1958-59 Wooden Presentation Case...it should likely not be a Clamshell Case w/ Flocked Interior, but will have a Satin-Lined Interior much like the Earlier Black Cases had!! Let us know!!

I'm with VM....the price is more than fair if it has the correct clamshell case and fluted long taper sight adjustment tool.

If the gun does have a 6" barrel and it is a 4 screw frame I would say it was returned to the factory and re barreled and cased with what was currently available. and not worth 1450.00. If the gun is original and the barrel is 6 1/2" and cased period correct 1450.00 is fair.

I would not trade. A 57-1 and a 25-5 even up trade you will be leaving money on the table. I would sell the pair out right and buy the 29 (if original) and pocket some cash, or just sell one and add a little to the 29. ONLY IF the 29 is original which is questionable.

Well I don't need to worry about it anymore. Someone came in and bought it yesterday. Why is there always a sigh of relief when this happens? I would have loved to have the gun but now I'm relieved someone else "pulled the trigger".
