Model 29 Question

Okay guys, I have a question. I own a model 29 5", serial number S1768XX. It was the only model 29 variation I did not have to complete my collection of blued 29s and finally got one. I wrote Roy Jinks asking for a factory letter on this gun and received the letter today. The letter states this gun was shipped from the factory to H.H. Harris Company in Chicago on March 31 1953. Do not mean to question Mr. Jinks but is this possibly a typo as it is my understanding the 29s were introduced in 1955. As a sub note I got the gun wiht the original sales slip from H.H. Harris dated 1961. Price paid for this gun was $111.60. Wow!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! What a great find. The 5" 29 is a fantastic gun and a great addition to any collection. There are not very many floating around, soooo, where are the pictures??

Nice Catch! Glad you found the missing link to your collection. As a side note: $111.00 sounds like a good deal but remember that in 1960 that was over a weeks wages for most folks. My dad was an electrical contractor and that is about what he took home at the time.

Great collection of 44 Mags!! The correct case for your 5-inch 44 Magnums is dark blue with a smooth exterior, clasp style latch, blue cloth interior, and made to fit a 6 1/2-inch revolver. S&W did not make cases for the 5-inch barrel variation, but used cases made for the longer barrel.

According to the American Institute of Economics $111 in
1960 is a little over $800 in todays dollars FWIW. Pete
