I have both the Model 327 PC 2" PC Revolver and a Model 627 PC V-Comp Revolver. My question is concerning the full moon clip thickness. I understand that with the 627, it is not necessary to use a clip, but with the 327 you do. I use them in both. How do you measure for the correct thickness? I have ordered these previously, but I hope they will work correctly in both guns. One last question, would it damage the Model 327 if a clip was not used?

I'll move this to the appropriate forum.

It is not necessary to use moon clips with any of the 27/327/627 revolvers that ship from the factory already moon clip enabled.

Each and every one of the revolvers pictured above is an 8 shot 357 Magnum revolver. Each and every one shipped from the factory already moon clip enabled. Each and every one will fire with or without moon clips.

The original factory supplied moon clips back in 1997 were .018" thick. At the time I felt that they were too wobbly. Not to mention too expensive. In 1997 the factory got $34.95 for a set of three clips. I had a die made and began manufacturing my own clips out of .022 thick material. This greatly reduced wobble and still allowed all brands of brass with the groove to be utilized. The factory has now switched to .022"

The problem with anything thicker than .022" is that you will have brands of brass that can not be used with the clips (Winchester for sure). Wobble will be reduced further but in my mind it is too great a loss of ammunition versatility.

Thanks!

Thank you fo the answers. I will close this thread from the office.

I have used the Ranch Products moonclips which I believe are 0.022" thick. They work with all brands of brass except Starline which has excessive wobble but it usable. There are moonclips available which are thcker than 0.022" and reduce wobble to the point that you can use Starline brass. Unfortunately these thicker moonclips cannot be used with nickel plated Winchester barass and a few others brands which one encounters.

Thanks for the input!

I just received 20 from TK Custom. Have not had a chance to try them out. They are also 22 thou. I have another 30, but not sure what the thichness is. I use them specifically in the little Model 327. No trouble. I bought the new batch for the 627. Are these interchangeable, no matter the thicknesses?

Yes, they are the same gun, just made from diffeent metals.

I have a 5" JM PC627 V-Comp and a 4" 627 Pro. Both work fine with/without moonclips. The eight spindly spider-like moonclipped legs are more difficult - ie, slower - to load than the six shot .45 ACP ball ammo in my 625. That revolver forever spoiled me for 'fast reloads'. Still, I wanted more 'ready ammo' for my 4" 627 Pro - and bought more .022" blued clips - just like S&W, etc, offerings - from the source - Ranch Products. They were 50/$50 or 100/$75 delivered. More than the 6-shot .45 ACPs - which run 100/$35 delivered - but still a bargain compared to other sources.

It was my finding that Remington ammo loaded okay - even the R38S12 +P .38 Spcl 158gr LHPSWC, which I keep clipped for emergency use (All of my safe guns have moonclipped/Speedloader defensive ammo for emergencies!). The best - ie, easiest by hand - to load in my 627s' moonclips are rounds loaded in Starline brass. I ordered 1k of Starline (Directly from them - cheapest by far!) .357M brass and keep 56 moonclips loaded in four food containers with 125gr JHP .357M wimpy-plinkers - and a few more loaded with the 'old FBI load', as I previously mentioned. The moonclipped .38s load more easily - they are shorter and their wobble results in less movement as a result. Mixed .357M brass wobbles as much as Starline, some of it is just hard to mount in the moonclips, while the Starline is consistently easier to mount. It works for me. I can't imagine the 327's being different - it would just eem senseless to make them differently from the 627-series.

Thanks again for the information. I will most definitely be checking out the Ranch Products for their Full Moon Clips. That is an amazing value.
