Model 34-1 Question

Hello all. I have a model 34-1, s/n M139 8XX, with the original blue box, cleaning kit, and tools. The revolver is a 2", blue, square butt, and has adjustable sights. It has a target trigger and hammer.

The box matches the s/n, and has a pre-printed label that says: "0341012031 Y
22/32 KIT GUN 2IN SQ BL"

The other side of the box has a label with hand written info as follows: Model No.: 34-1, FIN: B, Barrel:2, Stock: S
INS: 30, PKR: 1, special features: #25,990
serial number: M139 8XX.

What do I have, and what is it worth? (95%)

It should be worth $550 - $750 depending on the buyer and how bad he or she wants it.

Ok.. while we are talking about Model 34's, what about a Model 34-1with LadySmith grips, no box or papers? But in great condition other wise? What would you say it is worth?

The little J frame .22's are not as plentiful as their K frame 22 big brothers and starting to rise in value,
A few years ago they sold in the $350 to $450 range but recently clean complete examples are creeping into the mid $500's and low $600's.

The pinned SS round butt snub version is not as common and brings a premium,
Then the blue and nickel snubs followed by the square butt and 4" versions.

S&W also made a long barrel version (Model 35)
As well as aluminum framed Airweight versions (Model 43).
Generally the older diamond grip variations (pre 1967) are a bit higher and
usually pinned barrel versions go for more than non pinned barrel (post 1983) versions.

While they are not as accurate as the bigger K22's they are very good training guns for beginners and also make great little backyard plinkers.
J frame .22's usually have target sites unlike the J frame 38's which is opposite,
Accordingly J 22's without the target sites fetch a premium where J 38's with target sites bring the premium....weird eh?

I paid/traded $450 OTD for a 4", blued, 34-1, nearly mint, no box, circa 1981 about a year ago and thought that was a steal at the time. Since then I've had my eye out for a 2" and haven't seen one go for less than about $600.

for me, that's too much because I can buy a new 63, 317, SP101-22 or LCR22 for that - more or less.

I just compare the price asked to that of a new one. If a new M63 or SP101-22 4" is about $670 (with tax) at Cabelas, then $450/$670 = 67% of the price of new - with easy resale, then that's what I'd do - go with used.

I don't care about the IL etc - but my 34-1 is pre-lock, pre-MIM, pinned and recessed with target sights and trigger. So that's a BONUS!

That's a nice little gun and I bet it's a blast to shoot but, from the photo, it doesn't appear to have a target trigger or hammer?????

A buddy of mine has a four inch pinned SS 34-1. It had a firing pin problem and I had it fixed for him. At the time I wasn't too familiar with the Model 34 and the gunsmith told me it was a pretty rare revolver in stainless. Of course, I started looking and found they are hard to come by. Wish he would give it up.
