Model 34 vs. Model 63

I believe that the other difference is that the 63 has a red insert front sight.

Internals should be the same.I suppose if you had both,a couple of Pintos might be made with some swapping/fitting.

the reason i ask is i have a 34-1 nickel with a bad cylinder and i thought maybe the 63 cylinder might be buffed to a close look of nickel.

Given the ease with which S&W cylinders are removed, you should be able merely to switch them out and see if the 63 part fits. I don't have all the engineering changes memorized as some here do, but I was looking at my 63-3 after reading this thread, and it occurred to me that the location of the gas ring must be the same(yoke or cylinder), and that the extractor rod must be the same length. The timing may need tweaking depending on any possible variation in the respective ratchets. This thread might get a little more expert attention in the Smithing section.

I tried to replace a 63 no dash firing pin with a 34's. Jesse Harp's shop couldn't do it 30 years ago.
