I have a 1977 Model 36 2" with a square butt that I am keeping for a friend. He bought it new. All original, shot very little, box, papers, etc. The 4th Edition SCSW only mentions square butts for 3" Model 36. Does a square butt on a 2" add any additional value? First one I have seen. The friend may wish to sell it at some point and I am interested.

Thanks - VaTom

As far as I see it square butts were not reserved for 3" barrels. I have 1959 36 with 2" barrel and square butt so at least 20 years before this one they had them as SB

Here’s another Model 36 Chiefs Special with a 2” barrel and a square butt. I think mine is late 70’s without looking. I don’t believe there’s any difference in the price of the square butt versus the round butt. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Others may disagree.

The square butt 2" Chiefs probably aren't as ubiquitous as the
round butts, but they're not scarce by any means.

I agree with sophie -- no premium. More of a personal preference.
The square butt Chiefs are my favorites.

My earliest 2" Chiefs Special square butt is a 1953 Airweight.

Then, there's a '55 and a '62 in nickel.
