Pretty ordinary 1975/6 Model 36.

I gave this to my Mom and Dad probably 15 years ago because they wanted a gun my Mom could handle. Never mind she probably really couldn't. Found it used in a shop for a good price. It is all matching with a few scattered dings. Light oil coat makes it hard to get a good pic. She never fired it.

She would ask me periodically, "which of the bullets you gave me are the blanks and which are the real ones?" "Mom...I didn't give you any blanks. The big box is target ammo and the small box is for protection."

Dad has been gone 13 years and Mom is now terminal with kidney disease.

Not a family heirloom by any means, but won't be leaving my collection.

Of course, its story is what makes this Model 36 a family heirloom… it will always be part of its legacy.

Prayers for your Mom!

Sorry to hear about your Mom Rob. But that story line and the fact that you provided them this one for self defense makes this an heirloom for sure. Even though your Dad has been gone for 13 years, I'm sure he truly appreciated what you did. I'm certain he was looking down with reassurance that Mom could protect herself all that time as well. Pass this one on; with the story, to another family member that could protect themselves as well!

Rob, thanks for sharing. I only have one model 36, about the same age as yours. Also, just a plain 'ol 36. Was given to me brand new by a copper buddy. I will also always cherish it. A gun is a gun, but a gun with story is truly history.
May God bless you and yours my brother,
fuzzy
