Model 36 blue 1 7/8 barrel, s/n 714060, it also has a number on side of round butt frame just below the grip roll pin 88196. I'm a new member and have had it for decades and shot it very little. What year was it mfg.?
Is there a J before the serial number? If not, It would be from sometime in between 1962 and 1969. The book shows 29500 starting in 1962 then jumps to showing 786544 as starting in 1969.
If it has the J prefix, it would be from '79-'80 time frame. J670001-J760000
No "J" just a 36. I was thinking I got it around 1967 at Woolworths.
Thanks, I've been reading the board alot the last two days since joining. This forum looks like a great deal of really good folks and great time saving information and advise, thaanks again.
I carry # J 291537 no dash, and have been told not to shoot any +P loads, in it, it is in very good condition, a Detroit police turn in, does not look like it has been fired much, just holster wear, no mechanical wear, still nice and tight.
I know that this has been kicked around a lot on this forum, but would it be safe to use any of the +P defence ammunition in this gun?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Thank you, one of the guys at the local gun shop, talks like a pro shooter, so had me worried, I unloaded my 125gr.Super Vels and started carrying 158gr. lead round nose std.velocity rounds.
I am a big fan of standard loads in these little J frames. The recoil is stout enough as it is. I recomend hornady critical defense. They are really good rounds and won't beat you the shooter up and they are devestating down range. Just my .02. No I am not a paid endorser of the hornady line it is just what I carry.
FWIW, I carry the "FBI load" in mine. 158 gr. LSWCHP +P. IMHO, better to use this than have worry about getting enough velocity out of the snubbie to expand a JHP.
