model 36 help

hi all, i need help with the year and value of this model 36 2 inch revolver. the bluing is exceptional, only down side is on the back strap some one appears to have lightly engraved an old ID number and i do mean lightly.

First, that's a Model 36. For a date estimate you'll need to provide the serial number.

J25602 is the serial

Some folks keep serial number databases and may be able to narrow it down more, but this s/n probably shipped in the early part of 1970.

Values vary significantly from place-to-place, and that engraving, light though it may be, will be a turn-off to some. I don't track sale prices, but I will say that to *me* it would be worth around $500 as a shooter, assuming its mechanics are sound.

Minus the scratching on the back strap that's a pretty nice Chiefs Special.

Others in my database suggest it shipped in about January 1970.

For my likes Frailer's $500 is a bit high, but I'd think you could attract a $400 buyer in today's market.
