Model 36

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I recently acquired a Model 36 and was curious when it may have been manufactured. I tried the few links I could find that showed S/N's and production dates, but had no luck in finding any info for this J frame. I did try calling S&W CS, but had no luck getting through the other day.

I was also surprised to find that the grips had a matching serial number to the revolver frame.

The S/N begins with a J25XXXX if that helps any.

The book shows 1975-1976 for those serial numbers. It's good to find the serial number on the stocks so you know they are original.

The square butt 2" versions were less common. Nice gun.
