I put a pretty nice S&W Model 37 Airweight P&R on layaway. It has a case hardened trigger and hammer with firing pin on the hammer. It has a couple of blemishes from holster wear most likely but the blueing is really nice. It has the Serial #: 2337nn (didn't give you the last 2 numbers) and I wanted to know when it was made. I did a little research but couldn't find anything definitive. I think it's late 1950s?

Thanks in advance. This will be my first 37.

Sorry...might have posted this in the wrong thread is the date is pre-1961

I presume it is a 3-screw frame with a pinned barrel, so you have the correct section.

From a known close SN, I would guess late 1961. Bob (two-bit cowboy) may be along with a more precise answer.

You're probably in the right area.

S&W likely shipped yours between the fall of '61 and spring of '62.

It has a pinned barrel, but it does not have a recessed cylinder. It's "P" but not "R".

Should have diamond magna stocks and a flat style thumbpiece with 12 ridges and 13 valleys.

Photos?

Thanks murphydog for the info. I didn't notice the number of screws but did see it had a pinned barrel.

Thanks two-bit cowboy! I did notice the pinned barrel and that it had a flat style thumbpiece....with 12 ridges and valleys? Wow, I've never heard about such detail! Very cool.

I don't have an online picture storage area, sorry. Thanks for the year analysis!

I got it for $450 total, which I didn't think was too bad, especially for a J-frame that's ~61 years old! Plus, I didn't have a 37 yet either. I got a newer 637 which is a great shooter but now have it's older brother. I also knew it wouldn't last long in the case since they just got it in over the weekend.
