A local guy has a nickel Model 38 Airweight 2" for sale. I have only seen photos, but it appears to be in like new condition. It has a pinned barrel, but does not have the flat latch or diamond grips. So, I assume it was made in the 70s or very early 80s. No box or papers. He's asking $400. Is that a good price? I'm very tempted!

IMHO, yes. That is one model of 38 I wish I had never sold. They are rarer than the blue models, especially in the shape you describe.
I would get it now!

That is a good price. Those are great guns and you'll love it !
Please post some pics when you get it!

Have I "enabled" you enough yet??? ;)

I'd buy that in a heart beat. My blued 38-2 is my favorite revolver.

A nickel Model 38 is a rare sight. That is a good price for any model 38.
Look it over good but if it is mechanically sound $400 is a good price no matter what. Unless it is a new gun with lock... then it is an OK price.
BTW it could have been made as early as 1967 w/o diamond grips. What is the S/N on the butt plate. It's always possible (very) that it's an earlier gun that someone put non diamond grips on and sold the diamond grips for more $$....That happens more than people know. I love the J frames and the Bodyguards. Good price. If you can take a pic and get SN and post it we can help you more. If he is a local guy not an LGS he will probably wait a day or two.
