I have just stumbled onto a M38 Airweight and I cant find much information on them. It has an aluminum frame and a STAINLESS steel cylinder and barrel. When I first saw it I thought someone had replaced the blue cylinder, but after reading what I could find it apprears it may be original to the gun. The serial number is 95J7XX. Can anyone help me date it and let me know what they think about this old gun.

Thanks in advance, Bob.

Bob: The blue Bodyguard with stainless cylinder was a variation of the Model 38 originally produced for the Michigan State Police. Not all of them ended up as police guns, though--the one pictured below was shipped to a distributor in Dallas in 1975. Based on the serial number, I believe yours was built around 1971-72. They're nice guns, and somewhat harder to find than the standard blue or nickel versions.

Thank ACP230 I will check that thread. DC7 mine looks just like the one you have pictured, but with a few more miles on it...
