Thank you. That is a good start.
It did not have magazine in it. I am guessing my uncle took it out for safety reason and family got rid of it when house was cleaned.
Now to figure out what I need to get and where.

You can get Promag magazines for it at Midway and on Ebay for under $20. But....they are Promag.

Depends on how correct you want to be with that M39-2

Welcome to the Forum from Virginia. From your serial number I'd say 1977 maybe a tad earlier. Mine is A 434289 and shipped May 1978 per Roy Jinks the S&W Historian. Mine came to me with only one original magazine (black plastic follower) so I also searched Flea Bay and even years back a correct black plastic follower was in the mid $50 range plus shipping and handling, etc. so yea....the correct ones are not cheap. They came with two (2) magazines when shipped from factory.

Mine came with the original box but the twisted wire brush cleaning rod was not S &W. Docs were original as far as I know.

So....if you are looking for 39-2 mags, look first for black plastic follower (to be period correct), then maybe the steel "X" shaped follower (earlier), or the orange (maybe yellow) plastic follower of later years. There are several real experts on here with regards to Model 39 and accessories so one of them may be along to correct my above info if wrong (I'm just a shooter accumulator. Not any expert on anything):D

PS: We LOVE pics so grad your cell phone and show us your treasure!

Mr. Vet, excuse me for not welcoming you to the Forum. I failed to notice
you are a new guy, so welcome and thank you for your service. If you want to try some non-factory mags at the range, just PM me and I will send you some new Pro-Mags to try. I dont trust them for carrying but for the range I guess they are OK. best, Mike
