Model 39-2 Unfired, Nickle value?

I was visiting my local toy store today and they had just put out a unfired, nickle S&W Model 39-2 with the original box & papers. Had the extra magazine too. Came with the Pachmayr rubber grips as well. Serial puts in the 73-74 manufactured date range. Not a blemish on it. I thought he was a little high at $600, but I wanted to check here first.

With all the goodies and I see a lot more blue than nickle... I would think in the 500-600 range. Depends where ya live too, seems some states are more than others. I'd pay the 600 for it, if I didn't have one. Very nice pistol.....

sounds really nice. I got a couple of nickel 39's in the past year or so. One in the box and one not. paid 400 each. I just do not see many of them and always liked them. I would think that it would briong 550 to 600 in most parts.

$600 is not a steal, but then again, how many N.I.B. 39s in nickel are you bound to find?
They will continue to go up in value, so you'll never loose on it.

Not too long ago, I paid $525.00 for a blue one in near new, if not NIB condition. I wouldn't think they'd have much trouble getting $600.00 for one in nickel.

Always wondered about paying more for an unfired gun. How can one be certain its unfired? It was fired at the factory so doesn't that make the unfired statement untrue? Also, why pay more for the honor to be the first to fire it and when you do, you just decreased the value of the gun. Just never could understand the reasoning other than a way to get more for a weapon. Kinda like the car was was only driven by a little old lady to church on Sunday then finding out her 16 year old grandson took it to the drags the night before.

Thanks everyone for their replies. It seems it was a little high after all. I'm not usually into semi-auto's even though I do own a few. Revolvers at the moment have a hold on me but I saw this one and thought I wouldn't mind having it. The price is what's holding me back. Perhaps if he hasn't sold in a month or two I will return and see if he will come down.

I just paid $525 for NIB never fired Nickel Model 59 and I thought I did very well. Not same gun but same idea. 1st Gen Nickel guns NIB are not multiplying. Sounds like a price I would pay if I came across one. JMHO

FWIW, I bought mine a couple of years ago for just shy of $520. It too appears to be unfired, box and all the papers, spare mag.

I thought that to be a very good price, and would seriously consider another at $600 today.

Nickel 39-2

Paid 425 a few months back for an exceptionally nice nickel 39-2 with one mag/no box or tools. I was very happy to get it. The last NIB Nickel, complete with tools, etc, that I saw was over two years ago and 450 at that time. I would expect to give considerably more for it today. 600 is full price - but likely worth it. When do you expect to see the next one?? If it's 50 or 100 on the high side - does it really matter if it's in the condition you're looking for? Go for it!

In SF Bay Area an unfired and boxed 39-2 nickel with magazines and paperwork will START at 500.00 and go UP from there.

500.00 +transfer being a DEAL!

if it hasn't been fired since the factory, it is considered unfired.

i just picked one up ,39-2,nickel,mint in box ,xtra mag,docs etc,for 420.00 otd.as always,it's being in the right place at the right time.It also came w/ beautiful black ,engraved buffalo horn grips,made by eagle i'm told.

Just wanted to clarify the never been fred. comment by cptken. of course it was fired at the factory. Never fired means unfired after ship from factory. Also...NIB items have more value to an investor/ collector if it han't been fired. So some guns I am keeping that way as an investment portion of my portfolio. I buy stocks, bonds, gold and guns. Many people collect them as a hobby and for the long term investment. The debate between firing a new gun or keeping it for future investment is a personal choice. The buyer gets to do what ever he / she wants with the purchase they made. I am doing both. Just for the record there are many guns I buy just to shoot or for home defense.

If you have been watchig gunbroker lately nib examples of 2nd and 3rd gen smiths have been going for an awful large sum 650 to 750 so I would say buy it if you like as it is only going to go up in value.
