How common is this configuration? Gun was made in 79 or 80...

Sorry for the crummy photo...

Not common, I collect these and have never seen one, my guess is someone. beadblasted the frame and coated it. as the anodizing was very easy to chip, or wear off.

I'm pretty sure that the finish is original. This gun has had 2 previous owners, I am positive the second never altered the gun and am almost as sure the original owner didn't either. There is no trace of anodizing inside or out, even in the nooks and crannies, so I g uess I dont know. It does appear to have a coating of some sort as there is a very minor blemish on the underside of the trigger guard...

Dachshund,
Stripping the anodizing is relatively easy, you use a "LYE" solution.

It will remove it from all the "nooks and crannies" also.
I've never seen one in that color.

The only two-tone version was a run of 701 made for the Connecticut State Police in 1979, and the frame had a nickel finish (probably bright nickel).

Looks pretty neat like that though.
