I have a very good chance of getting a model:4006 from a family member who no longer wants this piece. It has been well cared for and I would like to give him an honest value for this firearm. Could somebody help me with this? Also are "parts" still available at stores or online? This firearm is at least 15+ years old. Or should I buy a New M&P at the gun show? Oh the model is a compact stainless.

Thank-you

You don't say what the intended use is. As far as a range gun, it is
an accurate firearm. An excellent nightstand gun, too. If you want it
for a CCW, however, that might be problematic. It's a pretty large
gun, & fairly heavy, compared to today's poly pistols. There are people
who carry larger & heavier weapons, but it is something to consider. I
like the 4006, it's a 3rd Gen S&W, & they are built like tanks. It will
last a long time with proper care. As to value, you don't say how much use it has seen, so its hard to say. Is is in the original box? How many
magazines? Has it been maintained? They typically go anywhere from
the mid three hundreds to close to six hundred depending on condition
& extras. I hope this helps you.

This model has maybe less than 1000 rounds through it, and taken well care of. It will be used at home and the firing range. Not cc. Thank you for your responses.

For what you have described, I would look at offering about 350.00 for it. That way you get a solid deal and he doesn't necessarily get burned. If it is pristine and has a few extra mags, you may want to offer 400.00 to assuage any feelings of guilt that may otherwise crop up. I think you will really enjoy the 4006.

I think $350 is fair for both of you. I bought one in excellent condition a week before christmas for $299, just for comparison.

Oh to add to the value it's # on the side PCS !@##. So my friends does this change the value again? I just found this out tonight!

While the model number of this pistol is technically a 4006 what you have is a Performance Center Shorty Forty, chances are the pistol looks like this:

Price on these depending on condition and location can go up to $800. This pistol has many embellishments over a standard 4006. It is well worth the money you put out for them.

Cheers,
Sam

$350.00 to $400.00 would be fair. These are great guns, I have a 4006 and 4013 that I would never part with, carry them daily. Cannot go wrong with .40 third generation.

Yes...Yes That is the one. I am suppose to go tonight to pick it up! I"ll Let yall see it later,

So have you all agreed on a price yet? Wow, a
Shorty Forty, for sure one of my "Grail Guns"!

What exactly is a Shorty Forty? Is is similar to the 4013?

The Shorty Forty was the predacessor of the double stack 4013; it was also one of the first models to come out of the Performance Center around '91/'92.

When the 40 S&W was first introduced about the only models Smith offered were the full size pistols (4006, 4003, 4046, etc.). It wasn't until Paul Liebenberg was told there was no way to build a compact version of the 40 S&W that the Shorty Forty was born in the Performance Center.

The Shorty Forty is a race gun plain and simple; the slide/frame fit is hand lapped, it has a Barstow barrel, Briley sperical bushing and a Performance Center trigger job.

There were four distinct runs of the Shorty Forty; 1st & 2nd generation Shorty Fortys were very similar stainless guns, the 3rd generation came in blue and stainless with adjustable sites and finally there was the Shorty Forty 2000.

You can search the forum for Shorty Forty or Shorty 40 and get a great deal of information about these fine pistols.

Cheers,
Sam

Well folks........I took steaks for the dinner last night and I didn't come home with the PCS. The ""seller" changed his mind. This PCS was one comfortable gun. I left with no gun and donated steaks for the event. But when "he" is ready to sell later, I do have first dibbs at a later date. I need a drink, and left alone for a while.......it was so close.

Man, that blows! And you even provided steaks...I don't know,
but I might have left...with my steaks! Hope you get another
chance at it.

Wow! A Shorty 40 even! Too bad he changed his mind. Throw back a few and remember that other opportunities will eventually come around. Cheers.
