Model 41 ammo

I generally use CCI standard velocity rounds…easy on the wallet…consistent…clean burning and reliable. The last time I fired my 41 I used up some Remington Vipers and Yellow Jackets…neither known for best accuracy. Both types worked flawlessly and accurately.

My memory maybe a bit foggy but I seem to remember reading back in the eight's that Remington standard velocity was used when developing the M41. In the very early 60's I shot some with my Dad though we usually shot the HV .

Lubrication is key for me. I lube the cartridges.

I use Federal Premium Target, 711B. It is the best balance of price and accuracy for me. HV Match, 719, is good, too, but I stick with the lower velocity stuff, to minimize stress to the action.

I have always had feeding problems with my 41. So I lube the cartridges. A drop of oil in my palm, then massage a fist full of cartridges (10), before loading in magazine. Never had a problem since I started the practice.

My theory is the chamber is rough, came from the factory that way.

When I shot bullseye matches back in the 90's I bought a Model 41 as a couple team members had them. Occasionally it would have a feeding or jamming issue, and it didn't seem to care if the gun was clean or dirty.
A failure in a match was irritating since it required me to shoot an alibi round and then lose the highest single shot from the target score. Having an average of one per box of 50 rds. meant that in a 60 rd. match I was going to have at least one, and occasionally two. So I stopped shooting the 41 in matches, as it did it with almost any ammo.
It was a very accurate gun, and loved the feel of mine. But reliability is as important as accuracy.

I am new to the Model 41 business. Does any one else have ammo issues with these pistols? My pistol is used; I was told by the seller that the barrel had been replaced( it looks new ) and the lower is older ( it has the cocking indicator ) . I have tried 15 brands of ammo 36, 37 and 40 grain. All hi speed ammo works well but 40 grain std velocity is erratic. Best so far has been CCI minim mags and Wolf Match. The 40 grain std vel. causes extraction jams ie. the extracted case jams into the round being chambered and jams the pistol. I just wondered if this sort of thing is common?

Buy a new recoil and magazine spring. as well as all the other suggestions.
