Am a new owner of a 1973 era Model 41. Everyone I have talked to said to only use standard velocity ammo in this great gun. Problem is, every brand of standard velocity ammo has a different velocity. CCI would be my first choice, but they aren't available around here. Remington's standard velocity is 1150 fps vs. CCI's 1080. Will it hurt my new best friend to use the higher velocity Remington target ammo ?

Funny you should ask. I started a thread on this subject a few days ago, and you should be able to find it here:

There are a variety of opinions. I have been using CCI Standard for years and am happy with it, but the increasing cost has me considering less costly high velocity ammo. Then again, I don't want accelerated wear on the pistol.
As I said, opinions vary and YMMV.

The internet is loaded with sources for CCI SV and it works best!

I have owned 8 or 9 mod. 41s over the years[wish I still had every last one!]. I still have two with 4 barrels. All of the pistols I've owned were/are early ones with the cocking indicators, muzzle comps[ on the 7& 3/8s] .I reckon I've shot nearly 100 thousand rounds through the pistols I have now. I'll bet not 1000 rds were "target or standard vel." The major ammo I have fed these guns since 1971 has been CCI Mini Mags. Yes, I have shot some "bulk" Remington, Winchester, and Lord knows what else[NEVER HYPER VEL]I have never had a breakdown or problem with any of these great handguns.Keep them clean and someday I will consider replacing springs ,but I have not seen the need yet. Smokey, Mountaineer & Andy,
Thanks so much for the help. I know that I have finally found a forum with people willing to help one another, even a newbie. I think I will try one box (100 count) of the Remington while a bulk order of CCI SV finds its way yo my house. Thanks again.

My local Dick's Sporting Goods sells the bricks of CCI Standard Velocity for $25 and that's all I use in my 41s.

I own two mod 41's, one is only a couple of years old and the other must be at least 20 yrs old. I purchased both used from my local gun dealer.
I only use only CCI SV in my 41's.Never a problem
