I saw a really nice Model 41 at the gunshow today: 7"+barrell,1969, with original box,manuals, muzzle brakes with weights and 2 mags. Sticker price was about $1025. I would have bought it but the barrell was Drilled&Tapped for a scope. I am buying it to shoot occasionally, but does the D&T ruin any collector value big time? If I just want a nice shooter I think I am looking around $750 for the pistol only.

Maybe the D&T just cancels out the box and accessories as far as value goes. But I sure do like original boxes for anything I buy.Thanks for any input.

Interesting question. The gun is obviously far from virginity which is the biggest factor in collectable value. If the D&T is a near perfect job, I would say the value isn't diminished greatly.

Just my HO.

Are you buying to;

1)collect

2)shoot

?

They are two different animals. Collector guns need no extra holes.

Shooter guns are worth more with D&T, as you age, you will be looking for a scope!! :eek:

Mine came with extra holes, it offset the fact there was no box.

Thanks for the input. I had decided $850 would be my top offer and it looks like that would be in the ballpark. Willyboy

Make sure the barrel has a lazy & otherwise not from that period. Right Tom?

My point exactly, the OP should inspect if he has a matching barrel in that unit. May affect price if not matching.

Are you sure the barrel is drilled and tapped? that vintage may have an extendable front sight. Try to loosen the set screas and slide the front sight foward.
