Model 41 - EFS

A friend of mine recently acquired what he believes to be a S&W Model 41 with EFS and cocking indicator. I disagreed with him since he is unable to extend the front sight. However, I maybe wrong as the front sight could be stuck but I would like the group's opinion on the attached pic. Thanks....

That is NOT a EFS barrel

Agreed, just a drilled barrel. Screws will be allen, not straight. The EFS blade slides in a dovetail. The dovetail is visible when looking straight at the end of the barrel.

The EFS fools a lot of people...
I purchased one from a guy who had it for years. mint condition still in the original box.
He never knew it had an extendable front sight. Did not believe me when I pointed it out as I could not get it to move. pointing out the EFS on the box as the special feature did convince him....

I wonder if many shooters used this feature as it would seem very fragle if bumped.

I had a 41 with the EFS, it was hard to move so I used a small block of wood and gentle hammer taps to get it going. I think some oil was under it and had gummed it up a bit. The EFS was quite sturdy and not as fragile as mentioned.

I'm sorry for going off topic but I picked up a 41 Performance Center today. Serial Number UED7011...anyone know the approximate date of production?

I also own one with the EFS feature and it works as intended.
Not sure just how many were produced.

The EFS was designed and intended for a specific type of target shooting,,

it would not be something that you would carry around and plink with.

My EFS Model 41 sight would not move, the Allen screws were locked.
I put Kroil on the screws, and put the gun away for 2 years,,
yes,,, literally two years,,,

The next time I tried it, the screws turned like they were not previously tightened,,
the sight slides easily in the groove of the barrel.

Definitely a unique option which is why I bought it.
