I just bought my first Model 41 target pistol; used but in very nice condition. In anticipation of its purchase, I ordered two new OEM M-41 magazines from CDNN Sports in Texas for $27.99 each. They arrived in the original S&W packaging.
When I attempted to insert either new magazine in the grip well of my pistol, they would not fully insert and lock in place.

Comparing them to the magazine which came with the pistol, both had a slight swelling on the sides at the junction of the baseplates.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with new M-41 magazines?

I bought 15 Model 41 magazines directly from Smith and Wesson a few years ago. All magazines worked and fit perfectly. I would get them replaced since you bought them brand new.

If they don' fit correctly send them back. They should look virtually identical to the ones you received with the gun. Somebody at their warehouse may have boo-bood in packing them up and sent you the wrong ones. The proper mags will fit a M41, a M46 and a 422 pistol as well.

I have a newish model 41 and I ordered 5 mags from midway and every last one was squished out on the bottom and wouldn't seat in my pistol. To compound my problem my pistol was away at Clarks to get a shinny new hard chrome paint job and I didnt realize they were nackered for almost six months.

I guess if smith wont stand behind them Im hosed.

I just got off the phone with the returns lady at S&W she said there was a "bad run" of mags for the 41. She is sending me a return label.

Call smith and they will make it right!

41 magazine interchangeability?

I'm shopping around for my first model 41. the price and quality will determine which generation I end up with.
I would like to know if all generation magazines fit all generation 41's and what other parts of the 41 are interchangeable with earlier or later parts.
thanks

I bought two from CDNN a couple of weeks ago. Same problem. They will not insert all the way in. My other 41 mags range from .443"-.445" thick. These new ones are .475" and .482". Glad to know that others are having the same problem.

Update: I emailed Customer Service and told them my tale of woe. They responded and requested that I send them to them for replacements. Today my mags arrived with a letter from Roz Sousa in Customer Service. He noted that Mark was able to correct the issues and the repaired mags were being returned to me. I promptly got my model 41 and they seated as designed. I haven't had a chance to use them but feel that they will be fine. Cudos to Roz Sousa and Mark for their prompt service. I appreciate them.

I bought 5 new mags just in the last 6 months and they all fit nicely in my 1958 M41 and my 1963 M46. Any new mags should fit all years of these model guns. Most of the barrels will interchange as well.
