Model 41 magazines

I have owned about every S&W revolver made at one time or thother, but never a S&W semi. I have always had a desire to own and try out a model 41 and have found a dandy 7 inch barrel model. I thought I'd like the 5 inch better. This guy says the 7 inchers are worth more and he has a couple extra original S&W magazines with it that he claims are worth $50 each. Is he right?????

I'd say he's wrong on both if they are recent production, but yea the an older 7 3/8" with the muzzle brake would be more valuable and I would guess an all steel older magazine would fetch about $50.00.
The new 7" and the 5.5" have the same MSRP check out S&W's web site.
The magazines cost less than $30.00.

In my humble opnion, no on both counts. New 41 mags are always on Gunbroker for as low as $28 and I just bought an excelent condition used one at a local gun store for $20 OTD. Five & a half inchers may be more numerous but that's because there is more demand for them. If anything they sell faster than long barrels for the same price. The 7 1/4" barrel length was designed to give the 10" maximum sight radius allowed or formerly allowed in NRA Bullseye matches. Since those matches went over to the dark side allowing optics the long sight radius only benifits the few of us who refuse to go over to the dark side and even we are split about 50/50 in our preference.

You can't blame your neighbor for putting his stuff for sale in the best light and I wouldn't bother arguing the points, I'd just offer what I thought was fair for the package and let it go at that.

All of the Model 41 mags I've seen are original S&W as I don't think anyone makes aftermarket mags for them. That being said, the older mags with the metal followers are worth more than the newer ones with plastic followers. Neither is worth $50 a piece in my opinion. Maybe $25-$35 for mags with metal followers in good condition, less for the newer plastic follower mags in used condition.

If the gun has the 7 3/8" barrel with muzzle brake (see my avatar above), it is worth more than the newer 7" barreled guns to most folks. The great thing about a Model 41 is you can change the barrel in about 10 seconds, so if you buy it and want to try the shorter barrel, just buy one. Then you'll have two options to enjoy.

Bullseye gear has barrels, mags, and grips. Their prices are reasonable. Google/bing will show some places with mags down around $23 each.

Don't pay $50 for mags. There are plenty of good ones out there in the $20s.
