Was the muzzle break offered on the 5" barrel? If there is a previos post with this information I have missed it.

Thanks

I didn't think the Smith Book talked about brakes on 5" barrels, but it does. Says they are rarely seen. Hope so because I just bought a four digit gun with three 5" barrels. The barrel that is on it is 5 incher with a brake. I took a 41 with a 7" barrel out at home and held it up to the computer to compare and sure enough, its a 5" barrel on that gun on the computer looking back at me with a brake. Can only be certain when in hand.

Interesting.
I have 3 model 46's and have been looking for a muzzle brake for one of the two 7 in barrels. Found one but guy was out of his head. Well worn and still wanted $85.00.
If ya come across another brake give a shout.
thx
Jim..........

How do you plan to mount the brake to a 7" barrel?

JP is right, the Model 41 muzzle brake won't work on the Model 46 7" barrels or later Model 41 7" barrels. The barrel has to have the 3/8" barrel nub for the muzzle brake to fit over and a place for the screw which holds the brake on. Here is a close up:

I have seen one 5 inch barrel with one and that was only a picture. Guess you would call it a 5 3/8" barrel.

When you say cap do you mean false nose for the gun? Thats what we call them in Canada as I have taken mine off of my 1958 model year 41. It did not shoot well enough with it on there. Kept shooting to the left side all of the time.

The cap is typically referred to as a False Muzzle.

Please post photo's of the barrels when you get them!

I would suggest asking Mr Thom Beckworth that question as he probably will have a correct answer for you.
