I just bought a set of olympic weights. The longer top weight is aluminum and the 2 lower ones are steel. Didn't they make some that were all steel? These have never been used but no box. Does anyone have a box I could buy for these weights? I paid $355. Did I pay too much?

Hello,
they used the Handcuff Boxes for these weights, here are 2 photo's of original Olympic barrel weights, all steel. They did make aluminum weights, but there are also some counterfeit sets running around, send me a photo if you have one or two. I can better tell that way.
The aluminum copies I have seen had no serrations for adjustment purposes and also were not Blued, or anodized.

I am unable to send any pictures but the weights I have look exactly like yours in the picture even with the correct no. of serrations. They are blue and match perfectly in color. The man I bought them from is an old time S&W collector and said he got them from a collection back in the 70's. As I said before, only the longer clamping weight that attaches to the barrel is alum. and the other two weights hanging from it are steel. Are you saying that s&W did make all three weights in aluminum? Thanks.

I'm told that they made them both ways and that the all aluminum are the ones that are the hardest ones to find, so few made.
Still you have a good deal there.
A handcuff box that would not have been marked for these weights are found on the auction sites, and flea bay. I'm about to trade a full set of steel weights for the aluminum ones plus a kicker.

Tim has posted the S&W Model 41 weight sets on GB. This is a great price considering the price old sets bring. S&W stopped manufacturing the weights because they were labor intensive and were slow sellers.

They are exact duplicates of the originals. Forum members can purchase the weight sets for 250.00. The fit and finish are better than the originals. All tolerances held to less than +/- 1000ths of an inch. They disassemble exactly as the originals and will fit S&W 41 barrels that are slotted for the weights. Presently he has 20 sets of steel weights and also produced 10 sets with black anodized aluminum uppers and steel lowers (rare, very few manufactured by S&W).

Hopefully he is marking these with his ID so as not to allow misrepresentation as origonal. The only other person to duplicate these did NOT stamp in the index marks, allowing identification as aftermarket. Unlike the S&W 52 weights, there is no "S&W" stamp on 41 sets made by S&W.
