Model 41 slide stop question

Hi all. I've got a 1959 model 41, and when the slide is pulled back the slide stop very nicely pops up on its own and holds the slide back, and depressing the slide stop releases the slide forward. I've also got a very recent performance center (circa 2012ish) model 41, but on that one the slide stop has to be manually pushed up to hold the slide back - it won't pop up on its own. Does anyone know if there was a change in the slide stop mechanism at some point, or does my newer gun need to go back to the factory to be fixed so it springs up when the slide is pulled back? (btw, the fit/finish on the older one is clearly better)
Thanks

Slide stop

They should both work the same.
I would remove both sets of grips, so you can look and see how they function, your newer model may have lost the spring somehow.
Also the magazine when it hits the last round, its the follower that pushes the slide stop up. With the grips removed you should be able to see clearly what is happening, also try switching mags.
Make sure there are no rub marks on your grips, the slide stop may not be fully seated, and there is a small screw and washer used to hold this in place.

I have one PC and one non-PC both from 2012 they both work the same. With a empty mag in, the slide stop pops up on both, without a mag they have to be manually pushed up.

houlem, did you have an empty magazine in the PC model when you tried this? The spring on the slide stop pushes the stop down, not up. The empty magazine pushes the slide stop up to contact the slide and hold it open.

Embarrassingly, i did not have an empty magazine in the PC model. Thanks much guys for pointing it out. Now i've got to figure out how to release the cocking mechanism so I don't have to dry fire it to release the spring. From other posts it seems like the snap caps are the answer.

Or a yellow dry wall anchor, or a spent shell. The drywall anchors will even extract too.
