Hi,
I just joined the forum. I have a Model 41 that I was going to clean. I have never removed the barrel but read it was very easy:)..It was .....but now that I am ready to replace the barrel the trigger guard does not want to close. I have not tried to force the guard.
How much force does it take to close the guard?
It open very easily so I thought it should close back the same way with the same force?
Thanks
Randy

Suncat... check that your slide is locked back properly and not too far back. (Release and reengage the stop.) Also, make sure the magazine is removed.

I had the same problem when I first got my M41 and thought that I'd "broked my gun".

Hope that solves it for you. It should close with relatively the same force as it takes to open.

The force to close the guard should not be excessive, it's hard to put a number on how many pounds of force it takes, but usually it's done with just the thumb pressure on the guard. The only time I had a tight one was trying different barrels on the frame. They do not all fit the same. Hopefully your frame and barrel belong together, if you bought it new.
Right now if someone bought a used early gun, there is always a chance of not having the original barrel.

Will guard close without the barrel?

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies. Still no success.
Question2:
Will the trriger guard open and close with the barrel and/or slide removed?
Mine just seems to be lockup and not moving anything.

Thanks,
Randy

I'm very new to the Forum, although I have been lurking here for years. I would suggest that you let the slide slowly go forward, and then try closing the trigger guard. I know that is not the correct procedure, but it works every time on my M41.

I had problems with mine the first time I took it apart. My problem was making sure the recoil spring and recoil spring rod was aligned properly. Once I got that straight it closed the way it was supposed to. I now have two Model 41's and taking them apart and reassembling them is a breeze compared to my Ruger Mark II.

I agree. The 41 is a very easy pistol to field strip & clean.

Like everything else it's easy when you know how. If you're not sure don't force it. Take it to a quality shop and let them show you. There is a piece(in the frame) that should rotate when the trigger guard is moved. If nothing is moving try lubricating that area if you did not do so....maybe dirt has it snugged.
