I have a older 41 which lately has been having ejection issues, not many just enough to screw up a match. The extractor tension appeared very weak compared to other 41's. So I replaced it along with a new spring and plunger and since I had it a part a new firing pin and spring. Now it won't get pass a second shot without a light hit. Rechecked my gun smithing and everything appears fine, firing pin moves freely with good protrusion the only difference is big improve in the extractor tension. If I try a fired case it shows a good hit. When firing with live ammo after the first shot it's just click with barely a hit. Any ideas

Does the gun appear to be going fully into battery when the slide closes on a live round?

On a side note: Just by chance at the LGS today I saw an excellent condition model 41, 7" barrel w/compensator, box, documents, and tools with serial number dating it to 1990. Asking price $995. I know ZERO about model 41's except I thought it was beautiful. I was tempted to buy it. Tonight on the S&W forums I see this story, heavyop's lament about light primer strikes, and another story about failures to fire and a slam fire (click-click-bang) with a newly acquired model 41 so I am thinking maybe I'm glad I did not get that model 41? My only experience with a semi-auto .22 of that vintage is a Browning Medalist I've shot for 40 years intermittently (thousands of rounds) without a hiccup. Are the two posts tonight about problems with the 41 anomalies?

My first atempt to fix a 22 issue would be to clean it, and then try different ammo and see if it gets better or worse.
My 41 only fires CCI standard velocity. Anything else makes it useless in a match. My 41 has been shot so much that the slide face is battered into the face of the barrel. Looks bad, but somehow its perfect with CCI SV.
Sorry we are not in a climate that trying different ammo is an easy option.
