I just bought a used model 457 today from a gun shop , I did not get a users manual so I called S&W and asked them if I could use +P ammo , the tech said not to , it will work but the guns life will be shortened . Also they e mailed me a uses manual .
I shot about 50 rounds thru it and it was a pleasure to fire , brought it home and cleaned it , easy to field strip , this is one fine piece of machinery , I would rate this gun above the new Glock 30 I have.
Thanks KEN N

The 457 has to be the least known and most under-rated gun Smith & Wesson has ever manufactured! Congratulations on your purchase. None of my 457's have ever had even a hint of a malfunction using either cast or jacketed factory or home-brew ammo.

I can't speak to your +P question. I never use it in my 457 or Colts. I have only used standard pressure ammo.
