Good evening all,

Typically I’m inquiring about revolvers but this time I found a 52-2 that struck my eye....

Can any date it for me?

A107713

I was told it’s a 1974.... didn’t know if that’s correct or if it’s slightly older....

Thanks!

J

Are you sure about that serial number? The A prefix semiauto pistols, including the model 52 started at A115,001 in 1970 and the model 52-2 was introduced in 1971. This according to Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. Possibly you are looking at a 52-1 (1963 - 71)?

That was my conundrum also. My short research showed similar oddities. I’d load a pic but I don’t have it in near me currently. The serial is just as I typed it....without a SUFFIX A either. unit has been imported if that makes a difference. Keep me posted please.

I have a model 52-2 with a 107xxx serial also. There are a few post indicating that the scsw may not have the whole picture.

That's a head scratcher. The only explanation I can come up with is that S&W had some early leftover 52 frames, stamped a -2 on them and dropped them into the production line for 52 - 2's. It's pretty well understood that they never threw anything away. Speculation is just that but that's all I got on this one. Interesting, hopefully somebody smarter than me will chime in.
