I saw a Model 53 Jet today, in excellent condition, probably at least 98%, in the box with the auxillary .22 LR cylinder and all inserts. The guy wants $1450. It is a later model, as it didn't have the diamond grips. Any thoughts on the asking price?

My word!! That's a lot money ....... for that I would pack my K22 or model 48 on my side and sling a Contender in what ever on my back!

I saw a model 53 in about 80% ...... no idea if it had an extra cylinder for .22 rim ........ but I do kick myself at under $300 ...... that was probably 12 - 13 years ago .... but still .......

I think it's a little high, but..

The value seems to jump substantially if you want the box, extra cylinder, etc. Condition is everything.

If you just want to own one, I paid $500 for this one (on the right) about 2 years ago. It's within the first year or two of production. I would consider it a very high condition gun.

A bit high, with the box and .22LR cylinder pushing it a bit. I got one a year ago, no box, with inserts, in high condition except for missing the rear sight, (a Bushnell Phantom scope was installed when I bought the gun) which I replaced quickly and cheaply with one from a M19. IIRC with replacing the sight and shipped I have about $800 in the gun.

what is the bbl length? that would be a bit high for a 6in. but not for the 4 or 8 3/8 in guns. as was said earlier, condition is everything, but boxes and extra 22lr cylinder add substantially. they aren't making any more of these and only about 15,000 in the first place. your can buy one to shoot for a lot less money, but the high condition guns will always be harder to find and more expensive. to shoot these guns almost requires that you reload and that is a separate issue unto itself.

Model 53

Actually, that price sounds pretty reasonable these days. The .22 LR cylinders are almost impossible to find and quite expensive if you do find one. Does it have the original tool kit with the tapered brush? How about the red warning card? Manuals are easy to find but those two items are pretty scarce. If it has these, I'd buy it.
