Model 53 question?

I bought a .22 Jet a while back that came with the box and the inserts for .22lr. Problem is,half of the inserts will not seat into the chambers. Any idea what's up with that? They do not appear damaged and I've thoroughly cleaned the chambers.

I had that problem also. I made up a little mandrel and spun them in my lathe and polished them up. Worked much better then. You could do the same thing with a drill motor on a lower speed.
Lots of these seem to be a little rough on the outside.

Also if you have a case trimmer, you can chuck them in that and smooth them up a tad.

The after market ones sold by Numrich are especially problematic from what I've heard, could be someone was missing some of the factory ones and bought some after market ones to supplement? Just thinking out loud... my wife hates it whenever I do that at home...

You could also lightly polish the outside of the inserts with Flitz or some other light polishing compound.

So what is wrong here? Are there chambers that won't accept any inserts, or inserts that won't go in any chamber? Or some that will and some that won't? I think I'd isolate the problem to specific chambers or inserts.

I've got a total of 12 inserts. They live in a ziplock bag. I probably should seal it so none can ever get out. If I want to shoot 22s, I put the LR cylinder in the gun. Or better still, I just select a nice K22 and have a cheap day of fun. The Jet is in its element when shooting Jet ammo. The inserts are like the box, and the warranty card. Keep it all together but don't risk losing them. Oh, put the tapered swab in the box, too. Sealed in a bag so no one is tempted to use/ruin it.
