While looking around at S&W Model 539's noticed the three I found all have a short wide extractor claws while mine has a longer thinner extractor claw just like the 39-2 and 59.

These are not the long fat extractors of the early model 39 no dash.

Weirder yet is my serial number is in between them.
Anybody else ever notice this?

I seem to recall my old 459 having the short claw as well.

A lot of the early 2nd gens had that extractor but for some reason, they seem to be seen on the steel framed ones more than the others. Could be that more of the alloy framed ones were made for longer and that they shipped quicker. I have a 559 with the narrow extractor which seems to be less common than the wide one.

You also have to consider that serial numbers were not used in order, etc.

The only thing consistent with S&W is inconsistency ....right?
Thanks for the heads up.
