Looking forward to this one … my first 9mm revolver and an interesting history

The Smith & Wesson 547: Ahead of its Time? - RevolverGuy.Com

I don’t use a picture hosting site … didn’t realize I can’t upload a pic here (like I can on other forums)

I bought a 4” square butt (one of about 4,000 made)

I've already ordered a replacement strain screw to lighten the trigger pull a bit

Here’s the GB link to the one that should be here on Wednesday for me to pick up

I look forward to some better pictures. I have the 3 inch version and is fun to shoot, but I have only shot it a couple times.20190828_220203.jpg probably time to get it out of the safe and put some fresh wax on it.

I was watching that auction. Looks like you got a nice one at a good price. I would like to get one someday.

Looks great 2AFan!

I added a 3” about a month ago.

Where did you get a shorter strain screw?

ETA: You can add photos from you phone, if you are posting from your phone. I’m relatively new so there may be a better way, but below the text box you type in will be an “attach files” box with a clickable “manage attachments” button. Fairly simple after that. This gets you the small photo under you post which expands when clicked.

If you use quick reply, I’ve found the easiest way is to post your quick reply and then edit it.

2afan, I see your on tapatalk. You should be able to post your pics directly from your phone using that + box under "photos, files". It should be easy.

I recently acquired my 547 4" . I'm a big fan of the 9mm and wanted one for a long time. I'm hoping to find a 3" someday.

Thanks… just added a pic to my OP. Thank you for showing me how!

Due to the firing pin and the cartridge holder that gun has a stiff spring. Be real easy in reducing the power, you could start getting misfires. Mine (3'') I left the strain screw & spring alone and did some careful stoning. (made a difference) Heck for the most part in the fire control department its just a K frame S&W.:D

From what I’ve read, which is not consistent from article to article, the stiff spring was OEM to ensure ignition of hard military primers. Since I don’t shoot military ammo, I’m hoping reducing spring pressure will lighten trigger pull and still be reliable.

Fingers crossed.

Congrats. I have a 4"er and it shoots great:

Sorry for the crappy pic. Mine is an early one with the pinned barrel.

And another beauty!

It’s funny how a 547 post brings out members who have some beautiful examples. Smith & Wesson Forum members must own a significant percentage of 547, and an even more significant measure of really nice examples! Like yours!

Yep… that’s what I read and why I’ll try to reduce the spring power with different strain screw

Here’s a good video featuring the 547 if you like Hickock45

Thanks, I found mine at a gunshow almost 20 years ago. I think it was $325 as new but no box or accessories. That may sound ridiculously cheap now, but you could get a nice model 10 for under $200, or a Highway Patrolman for $250.

If I remember correctly, the seller was a bit surprised he sold it so quick. They just weren’t as highly thought of back then, and neither was the 9mm round for self protection. It was back in the days that “you can carry any round you want as long as it starts with a 4”.

I kind of like the rubber stocks on mine. They are great shooters.
