Model 559 9mm

Saw one for sale for $450. Looks to be excellent condition. Anything to worry about?

Nope... especially the 559 with it's carbon steel frame. A refresh of the springs is recommended. I have a 459 and a 559, neither one has given me any issues or causes for concerns. I limit the really hot 9mm's to the 559, which has handled them like a champ.

My 459 (basically the same gun from what I can tell) is a solid shooter. It's a little more dated when compared to the Gen-3's, but a very nice knock-around gun.

$450.00 seems just a bit high--especially if it only comes with one mag

In my area, if you can find one, they run about a hundred more than that, in nice condition...

I want to shoot a few plus p and Nato loads, also handloads.

What is the parts availability like?

Seen one the other day at the LGS in good shape with only one mag, $650. Life is short buy the gun.

It is my understanding that some critical parts, like extractors and ejectors, are unavailable..
Therefore I will pass.

Just replaced an extractor on a 539. It was the stubby one too. The old one chipped after 30 years. Also just jumped on a nice 559 for under 400. It is not too hard to find parts for the 2nd Gen pistols. The 539 and 559 guns were only made from 80 - 83 and were discontinued with the introduction of the 639 & 659 if I`m not mistaken, which may be a possibility.

I found a 559 with one mag no box for $230 otd. It was a few years ago, but I'd do it again.... lol

I did a little research on the 559 I just bought. Most of the 1800 plus 559`s used the short stubby extractor. Mine has the 39-2 extractor, looks the same as the one on my 5903. It`s long and thin. According to the bluebook guys, only 200-250 559`s were made with the 39-2 style extractor. Very interesting. My 539 has the stubby one.
