I have shown this .41 Magnum before (new pictures though) but after another trip to the range I came to the realization that it is my favorite shooter. While it looks like a safe queen I shoot it about once a month. Great trigger and very accurate. If you care at all for N Frame Smith's you would love this gun. From 1976, our Bicentennial, this big revolver can really do its thing.

Many people insist that those model 57s had nicer bluing jobs than a lot of other Smiths at the time. I don't know if that is true, but yours is beautiful.

So do you shoot the milder Police Loads with it, or the full house Magnum hunting rounds with it?

I have always wanted a 41 Magnum, but I don't hand load. I have three 44 Magnums, and four 357 Magnums, but no 41.

I have no use for one, but I still want one.

I've been shooting a variety of older factory loads that I have accumulated over the years but mainly it consumes Remington's 210 grain HTP SP. It seems to like that round pretty well.

The bluing and the quality of the wood seems to be a little better that what was usually seen on S&W's of that period.

I do...and I do! Great looking gun in a great caliber.

FWIW our our bear guide in Maine has used a 41 mag for many years and all he has ever used is that same Remington load. He has killed many bears with that gun/load and said he has never had one do anything but fall dead.

Having a .41 eliminates the "need" to have anything else...

Was shooting several of mine yesterday with a friend who I sold a nice 1980 vintage 4" a few years ago. The action was done by mater gunsmith Karl Sokal and is one of the smoothest I have ever shot.

My friend has arthritis in his hands and yet shooting a 200 grain HP at 1400+ fps didn't bother him at all.

I had a 57 back in the 80's. I also owned several Model 29 .44 Magnums.
I much preferred the .41 Magnum.
I miss those old Smith revolvers!
I traded/bought/sold guns back then as often as most people change underwear.:D

The 41mag is a reloader's dream. I look at the .41mag as the sweet spot between the .357 and the .44mag. I've got a no dash from 1979 with a 4" barrel that I reload for...far from a safe queen but a very nice shooter. Here's a couple of pics.

Justed started reloading the 41 mag. Trailboss and a 210 gr. cast bullet is amazingly accurate. I bought a like new P&R model 57 a few years back and just now getting around to shooting it. Now it's my favorite Smith.

You are nuts on about the 41 Mag Retired W4. I got bit by the bug in the late 70's when I bought my 6 incher brand new in the wooden presentation box. Since then I have acquired a 4" S model, 4" 657, and a 3" 657. I have reloaded it since the late 70's and it is a blast. If you enjoy/collect Smith revolvers, you must have a 41 Mag.

I have a 4" 57 that is my favorite shooter -- The biggest mistake was letting go of a 6" nickel model years ago -- The 41Mag in both the police load and full blown magnum are both easy to shoot -- Accurate -- and will get any job done that can be done with a revolver IMHO

Hello folks.
I have just acquired a 57, S prefix. 4" barrel.
Would anyone here happen to know where I might
obtain an original wooden box for this piece?
Thank you very much.
