Greetings,

I love .41 mags! Really love em! Have a no dash 6.5" 57 that's been through hell and back. It did two tours in Alaska and has taken 44 deer over the years. While in Alaska it did suffer some light speckling from being exposed to saltwater on Kodiak and Sitka Islands (Heaven for hunters:))while traveling around on my old Lund skiff. Also has lost much bluing at the bore, cyinders and other high contact spots.

I have had to send it back to the factory twice for timing issues. My fault from shooting probably close to 25K + rounds of full powered rounds through it.

Here is my problem. I have a spare 4" barrel that has the pin hole and I already have a 4" no dash 57. Also have a 3" 657. An acquataince of mine is a recently retired Senior Chief Gunners Mate and has worked on my 1911's and did a fabulous trigger job on my model 15. He has been working on S&W revolvers for years and packs a 629 as his carry gun. The man knows his stuff! He recently opened his own shop and I'd like to send some business his way. He says he can easily do a Jovina like mod to mine REALLY cheap. After the revolver has seen its mod I'm sending it to Accurate Platin and Weaponry for a brushed hard chrome finish. They did one years ago on a BHP and the finish lasted forever, but I let it go in a moment of weakness

Should I have him cut down the 4" or 6.5" barrel for the job? I'm leaning towards using the 4" as the 6.5" has seen many rounds down the barrel.

Your advice is appeciated.

Let him cut the 4" inch one....if you wanted to go back to original, you would still have the 6.5" (which I have not seen many of either).

Post some pics when you get it done :)

How about a 3in round butt conversion?

Thanks mkk41 but I already have a 3" RB 657 and love it. If I did this the 57 would look just like it with its brushed hard chrome finish. Will post pics later.

I thought all the early revolvers had 6.5" barrels on them?

I had one in the late 70s while I was in college (had to sell for tuition), and it was a 6". I was of the impression that the M57s were 4, 6, or 8 3/8.

Well I didn't get many responses on this one but got er figured out. Going with a 2 3/4" barrel with a tritium tube on the front sight. Going to have it parkerized as he'll do it for free:).

Should look very similar to this one:

Great truck and SD carry revolver IMO.

Merry Christmas everyone. Please don't drink and drive. Lost my little brother from it. Luckily he didn't take anyone else out with him.
