Is there a 41 Special and why don't people reload?
It seems to me that Model 57/58's would be more popular if they had an alternative loading available such as 357 and 44 mag do. I have seen some loadings for a "non-magnum" 41 caliber load that pushes the bullet along around 875 fps. Are these just reduced 41 mag loads or does someone make a shorter "41 special" case? The guns are beautiful and S&W makes a Model 57 Mountain Gun that is quite tempting, lock and all. I shoot a fixed sight case-colored Model 22-4 that is very accurate and handsome in its own rugged way.
Time constraints are the only reason I could see not to reload for an expensive and hard-ro-find caliber such as 41 mag. A set of dies can be had for as little as $30 and a used single stage press can be picked up on the auction site for $50 or less. As an active shooter I would not own this caliber unless I could reload the ammo.
