Your price may be slightly high, but if you have the original box and contents it 'may' bring that much.

Be sure to snug down the screw on the rear sight leaf :).

I saw a nice 586-2 with no box for $600 the other day. I thought it was at the top of the value range.

I'd trade a 686-5 2.5" 7 shot in great condition for it if interested. Just acquired a cs1 and want its blue counterpart to it. If interested pm me. If money is the main focus then you could sell the 686 snubby for probably more than the 586 4".

Though that is a beautiful gun it won't have a hammer mounted firing pin and should also have MIM parts. So as much as it might look like a 700 dollar gun folks will value it for less unfortunately. Keep it unless you really need the cash.

I have a 19-8 357 and love it MIM parts and all. I wish you had posted this for sale before I bought my m66. Beautiful revolver.

actually it does

actually it does

That is a plus. It was in the mid 90s, around 1995 that they did away with the firing pin on the hammer. Now that I think about it that was the next model 586-5. That should help value.

Pre-lock, round butt, -6(?), 1995/97 ..... think that is a hammer mounted firing pin..... .....too the right buyer ........$700 maybe ...... to most "a bit" to $100/150 too high.

Love my 586 4" the -6 is IIRC the only 4" round butt 586.....only made for about 2 years.........

edit: the -5 was a .38 mainly for export to S Am.

you guys are a wealth of info

i just shoot them but am learning a lot
thanks

both 586-4 and -5 were made in .38 for Brazil export. The -5's were shipped in '93, and the -4's were shipped in '97. Mine is a -4, and came in a plastic blue box.

There's a 586-5 on gb right now that has 357 on the barrel as well as the blue plastic case.

OK forced my hand....LOL......

----- SCS&W page 249--------

"586-5 (1993) : Brazil contract in .38 Special."

" 1995-96: Delete square butt"

"586--6 (1997)Change in frame design.... MIM hammer with floating firing pin......"

Course we know S&W never throws anything away :D....

so any combo is possible...............

Right, it looks legit. 4" barrel, 586-5 stamp, 357 on barrel and product sticker on blue case, mim hammer and trigger. Looks good except for the price tag, lol.
