Can you remove the finish on a model 59. I was thinking of removing the black finish off of my model 59. Can you bead blast it off, and what would it look like? What should I watch out for if I do it. I thought about paint remover also. What would be the best to do.

If it is blued, you can remove the finish with a blue remover, sold through MidwayUSA or Brownells. I have heard that Vinegar will remove bluing also, but cannot tell you that for sure. I believe that the frames are painted on those, so a commercial paint stripper may be what you need. If you bead blast the slide, it will have to be repolished afterward, because the bead blasting leaves tiny pits all over the surface, and doesn't look all that good when reblued. You must also finish the slide in some sort of coating or it will rust almost immediately.
