I have the opportunity to purchase a model 60-10.
No box no papers etc…
So we’re all on the same page, it’s a stainless, J-frame, 5 shot, adjustable sight, 3” barrel, .357 magnum with S&W medallion “combat” stocks. It does have MIM trigger and hammer, but no lock.
Asking price is $700.
I do not have pics at this time.

Now…
I do currently have a Model 19-6 2.5” that I really like, but here’s my situation;

I will be legal to carry concealed at the end of this month, as the Great State of Louisiana will be granting constitutional carry to its honorably discharged veterans and active duty Guard and Reserve Soldiers on August 1.
Thus far I have only carried my model 19 in a belt holster. It would be fine under a jacket but there ain’t nobody wearing a jacket around here this time of year.
I don’t know how I would feel about the 19 for IWB and I know it’s too big for pocket carry. Also, my 19 is pretty dang nice and I sweat a lot. It would take an incredible amount of maintenance to keep from ruining it in just one summer.

Does anyone have any experience with the 60–10? What are y’all’s thoughts regarding that particular Pistola for IWB or pocket carry?
All opinions and input appreciated.

The price seems fair enough, especially with the Combat grips. They alone can bring upward of $200 for a perfect pair.

I would not carry a revolver with target sights, but you already carry a 19 so I guess it works for you.

I would also not carry a 3" barrel in or out of the waist. If I carry a 3" Chiefs Special it's in a shoulder rig -- tough to conceal if you can't wear a vest, at least.

If you're set on a J-frame with an exposed hammer in .357 Magnum, have a look at a 60-9. Barrel length is 2⅛", and it has fixed sights.

One guy's thoughts.

60-10

It's a nice little gun. I picked this one up two years ago. I do not shoot .357 Magnums out of this or any other J Frames. The stocks are Herrett's Detectives. I replaced the Uncle Mikes which are perfectly acceptable, but I have been putting Detectives on Js for forty years and like the way they make the gun point.

I carry one in a pancake holster in the wintertime when I wear a coat to cover up the holster. It's my go to handgun for carry in the woods too. Just a great combination of small size, adequate power, an adequate barrel length, and adjustable sights. Price wise on the one you want... I can't comment. I bought mine in 2000 and I haven't kept up with inflation on the model.

You asked - so here is my opinion......

I don't care for 357 Magnum J Frame Revolvers since they are heavier and bulkier than the 2" 38 special J Frames - important to me for concealment. Almost everyone I know who owns a Magnum J Frame version only carries 38 specials in it anyway. Shoot a bunch of Magnums and you'll know why! Why carry the extra weight and bulk just to shoot 38 specials? Magnums out of J Frames is just a bit much for my liking as is the loud report and hard recoil. Out of a 2" J Frame, the Buffalo Bore 158 grain 38 special +P LSWCHP-GC actually does 1,025 fps -about what a 158 grain Magnum will do out of the same length barrel. I see no drastic advantage.

The 1" longer barrel will give you better velocities (especially if shooting Magnums) but is harder to carry (especially pocket carry) which I do like.

Well, that's just my opinion and I am sure many will not agree. Oh well, sorry.

I have a 3” M60, great revolver and the price seems good compared to around here.

Great in an IWB or OWB holster, about at the limit barrel length wise for AIWB for me.

Imo, too big for a pocket and the sights and hammer are a snag issue. I use a 638 for that.

For me, it would be a belt gun. Way too big for a pocket, except maybe in a winter coat. But I don’t really care for pocket carrying anyway. The gun itself is fine, once you get used to the looks of the new design frame, hammer, etc. Price seems about right, providing the one you’re looking at is in nice shape and not modified. Buy it and give it a try. It will be much handier than the 2-1/2” K-frame.

I've had one for many years ..... one of my favorite carry guns/revolvers.
It's a great "Kit gun" or back up to a long gun while hunting.
Easy to carry IWB in urban areas with +P .38s.

I have no problem carrying a 3" 66 IWB in a Milt Sparks Summer Special.

Decent price if it's in good shape, perfect light-duty woods gun.

For CC, works IWB or OWB just fine, probably too long and a little too heavy for pocket.

I'd buy it and go IWB, and maybe later pick up a 2" 38Sp airweight for a pocket gun if you feel the need.

This variant, along with the earlier 60-4 (same design but in 38 Spl) defines the maximum all around useful stainless Model 60. OTOH, if I already had a Model 19 for field and range, and wanted to add a Model 60 for purely concealed carry purposes, I’d grab up an early 2” example with fixed sights, bob the hammer, and tuck it away someplace easily reached, and feel well equipped. At $700 though, I’d probably drag that 60-10 home “just because”.

Have a 2.5" Model 66-1 for CCW ,
My buddy had a pre IL 3" full lug Model 60-? for sale but when I compared its weight to my 66-1 snub it fealt almost the same.
I passed mostly because my K frames have better triggers and 6 rds vs 5 of .38/.357.
For pocket carry I switch to a Model 37 Airweight.

On a side note SS S&W's will rust from sweat especially under the grips so beware if you live in a hot humid area like here in SW Florida.

Would have been a 60-4 in .38 Special with the firing pin on the hammer or a 60-10 in .357 with the flat hammer that strikes a frame mounted firing pin.

I'll bet you'd be a bit surprised at the weight difference if you put either of those and your 66 on a scale, especially loaded.
