Welcome! It was likely produced in 1973 but its official ship (sales) date may have been 1974.

Welcome aboard from 'ol Wyo.

If the stocks are original the serial number stamped on the inside of the right wood stock will match the serial number stamped on the butt, minus the "R". There will also be a large "J" stamped on both stocks between the screw hole and the washer. That indicates it's a J-frame revolver.

Model 60 pinned barrels at least into the R282xxx serial number range in 1981.

Neat little Chiefs Special. Enjoy.

Near the serial number there are a bunch of caricatures any idea what they mean, it's a model 60.

I've got two. The first I bought new for around $120.00 in 1971. They started making them in the mid 60's but because of LEO orders and their popularity they were very hard to find for sale until the 70's. I found another in a pawn shop about 15 years ago for $300 OTD. I didn't need it but I wasn't going to leave it there at that price. I made the mistake of letting my daughter see and she decided that I didn't need two of them and took the second one home. This is the most accurate snub I've ever shot. If you can hold it still it's gonna hit where you aim. I still sometimes carry the first one I got loaded with Federal HST 130 grain reverse wadcutters. A good round for "up close and personal."
