Just bought a new Pro Series Model 60. The Trijicon front sight is extremely dim. I have other guns with tritium sights, and although none are Trijicons, all (Truglo tritiums, Meprolits, and Kimbers) the others are very visible.
The model 60's is useless, even in complete darkness. Were it not for "Trijicon H3" printed on the side, I would never had known that the front sight is tritium.
Is this normal for smiths or do I need to contact S&W?

Same thing on my Model 60 Pro. Front sight worthless. I have not had good luck with many sights from S&W. I don't know why they can't put excellent sights on their handguns.

Either S&W or Trijicon will replace the tritium vial in the front sight, give them a call. Trijicons stay bright for at least 10 years.

You got to remember the tritium insert in those model 60's is very very small, I thought the same thing about mine, but for as small as it is , it still gives a decent green dot in the dark.

My eyes suck, but I could see mine ok, not the best, but it's not a brightness problem. The dot is tiny, I just took my 60 out of the safe and with the early morning light I could see the dot light up. Did you buy the gun to shoot at night, is it your SD gun or is it for fun? Do you shoot at a range with no lights? :D

Thanks for the input. I'll call S&W. The included fired case was dated July 2011, so there should not be a decay issue. My DVD ,"Glocks Rock", covers different tritium sights, their installation and information about each manufacture. It points out that Trijicons are smaller but just as bright as others. I bought this M60 for fun (plus I never could refuse a pretty little thing). And I'm not against using it for SD. My 638 has a Crimson Trace. Not sub MOA, just gets more where it needs to be. If this call to S&W doesn't work out, can anyone recommend replacement tritiums (front and rear) and someone good to install them (don't want to bugger up the roll pin). BBFN

Pipeliner, I agree. Hopefully S&W can do something. But if they can't or won't, I am still seeking suggestions for gunsmiths that do good aftermarket tritium front and rear installation. And does anyone have any information on full moon clip modification?

I wasn't fond of tritium Night Sights to begin with and the teeny one on my new 60 Pro last January did nothing to change that. The larger one on my Governor seems more useful, as does the fixed front/rear set on my 632 Pro. Still, as more of a target gun, with it's decent 3" barrel and adjustable rear sight, it deserves a better front sight - like my 3" 63's HiViz. As that insert's silver ring is recessed in the black blade, it, too, is hard to pickup in daylight. If I had some decent white or orange/red paint, I'd try that!

Mine pretty dim/useless as well. I find I really need the back ones to do much good with them anyway. This is from shooting at the range after dark. Light enough to ID the target, but dark enough to fail to confirm sight pic with the front only. After the first shot with a 3" .357, it all becomes a moot point.
