I'm choosing between the 3" Model 60 and the 3" M-60 Pro. I am a big proponent of the 3" J-frame .22s and want a .357 next. I appreciate the easy maintenance of traditional stainless finishes and use a lead wipe-away cloth, often. I am not certain about the finish on the M-60 Pro? The S&W catalog indicates it is "Matte Stainless." I am not familiar with this description. Is it rather delicate, like the "Matte Silver" finish on my Model 317? I won't use a lead remover towel on my 317. Should I steer clear of the M-60 Pro for this, or other reasons? Is it worth the extra bucks over the standard M-60, which has the familiar "Satin Stainless" finish? The catalog does not explain these confusing variations. I'd appreciate any advice.

Sammy75....I've had a Model 60 Pro for about a year now and have not had any issues with the finish. I emailed S&W about it when I first got it with the same questions as you have about the finish. I was told to clean it like my stainless steel models, including the lead cleaning cloths. So far so good on mine. I've used the cloth to clean the front of the cylinder with no issues. Of course your mileage may vary but I pleased with mine so far.

Vaman49: That's what I needed to know. The Pro has some neat features but I don't want to struggle with cleaning/maintenance. Thanks.

I really like my Model 60 Pro and the matte finish is perfect.I have had mine about 3 years and after multiple range trips it still looks great.I also clean it like any stainless gun and use Birchwood Casey lead removing cloths on it every time I clean it.The matte finish also doesn't get scratched as easily as stainless. The grips are great and it points and shoots well.It would probably be my favorite gun if it didn't have that ugly lock.

Hoppe's #9: Can you tell me if the rear sight on the M-60 Pro is cut square or is it a v-shaped notch (like my 63 and 317)? I haven't had the chance to handle a Pro.

Rear sight is black square cut notch...not white outlined like some of the larger smiths.

+1 on the above rear sites.I also like the 60 Pro so much it replaced my Speed Six as my HD gun.The action is smoother and I like the night sites.

The 60 Pro is a nice little gun. It carries and shoots well. The trigger action on mine is really smooth to be straight from the factory.
